Our recycled leather border features a leather- look polyurethane on the face, while the backing is a blend of recycled leather. To achieve this backing, discarded leather is collected from the manufacturing of apparel, boots, shoes, handbags, furniture, etc. and is put through a series of scouring processes to achieve a consistent, even texture. It is then cleaned again to allow for a uniform, natural color. After being applied to the fabric, the recycled leather is washed again to soften the hand.
Therefore, the recycled leather backing keeps a significant amount of discarded leather cuttings from entering landfills. It also gives leather another life cycle without having to go through the environmentally unfriendly process of leather tanning. Lastly, it saves the environment from additional toxic waste, such as chromium, used in leather processing.
